My White High School Didn’t Give A Damn About MLK Day.

I went to high school in Carmel, Indiana, a predominantly White suburb of Indianapolis. Seemingly every MLK Day, I am reminded of a teacher who once mentioned that it was pointless that we’d recognized it as a national holiday. “We don’t really need the day off. No one even does anything.” She drove her point home.
